South Berwick has new scout troop

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — At a recent Webelos Scout Camporee in Acton, eight boys from South Berwick participated in a crossing-over ceremony.
In an old Indian ceremony, these boys crossed over from Webelos Cub Scouts into a newly formed Boy Scout troop which has been started by Scoutmaster Warren deWildt.
South Berwick has not had a Boy Scout Troop for several years because of lack of leadership.
The new troop will be sponsored by St. John's Lodge No. 51. Assisting deWildt will be Richard Raitt. Members of the executive board are: Gail deWildt, president; Carol Roberts, secretary-treasurer; Paul Roberts and Percy Storey.
The Boy Scouts first community service project will be under the direction of Tom Harmon of the Strawberry Festival Committee. The scouts will be setting up, emptying and cleaning up trash barrels from 9a.m. to 5p.m. at the South Berwick Strawberry Festival on June 25.
