Troop 338 Scout Law Court of Honor (names may be substituted for a specific ceremony. Also print out the Scout-Law-Candle-Reading for the candle lighting below) |

We will begin with Scouts seated by patrols. The Color Guard will be at back of room. SPL: "Welcome, and thank you for coming to our Court of Honor. Will you all please rise as we honor our flag. Color guard, proceed." The color guard will walk down the center of the room, and take their places in the front of the room. SPL: "Will you all please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance." SPL will then lead the Pledge of Allegiance. SPL: "Color Guard, post your colors." The Color Guard will post the colors, then return to their seats. Dim Lights SPL: "As I light these three candles, representing the colors of our flag and the three points of the Scout Oath, may we be ever mindful of the ideals which bring us together this evening." He lights the red, white, and blue candles. As he does, Scout A, Scout B, and Scout C come discreetly to the table. Scout A: "Please listen to the meaning of the Scout Law." Scout A will then light the first candle, and read the first paragraph "a Scout is trustworthy". He will proceed in a similar fashion through the next 3 points of the Law. Scout B will pick up at "courteous" and proceed through "cheerful". Scout C will pick up at "thrifty" and finish with "reverent". Bring up lights. SPL, Scout A, Scout B, and Scout C will retake their seats. Committee Chairman will open with remarks welcoming parents, and will introduce (District Representative), who will make a Friends of Scouting presentation. (This could also be a time to present the Chartered Org Rep with the new charter certificate.) Committee Chairman will then introduce Scoutmaster, who will begin presentation of awards. Scoutmaster: "Would Scouts (candidates for Scout badge) please come forward." The (Scout badge candidates) come up. "Tonight we are recognizing that these scouts have taken the first step on the trail to Eagle, and have fulfilled the requirements necessary to wear the Scout badge. Congratulations!" The Scoutmaster will present each Scout with his rank and acknowledge merit badges where appropriate. The Scouts will be seated. Scoutmaster: "Would Scouts (candidates for Tenderfoot badge) please come forward." (Tenderfoot badge candidates) come forward and face the audience. "The Tenderfoot rank is the first waypoint on the trail to Eagle. Each of these scouts has fulfilled the requirements for this important step, and is to be congratulated on his achievement." Scoutmaster will present the boys with their rank, and acknowledge merit badges where appropriate. Scoutmaster: "Would Scouts (candidates for Second Class badge) please come forward. (Second Class badge candidates) come forward. "After a scout becomes a Tenderfoot, the learning experience continues. You have learned some additional outdoor skills and some first aid, and you have learned something about yourself. Congratulations on achieving Second Class rank. Scoutmaster will present (Second Class badge candidates) their rank and acknowledge merit badges and service stars where appropriate. Scoutmaster: "Would Scouts (First Class badge candidates) please come forward." (First Class badge candidates) come forward. "The First Class rank represents a significant step in scouting. It represents the "complete scout". You have become a better camper, able to take care of yourself and others. I challenge you to continue that development as you advance towards Eagle." Scoutmaster will present (First Class badge candidates) their rank and acknowledge merit badges and service stars where appropriate. Scoutmaster: "Would Scouts (Star badge candidates) please come forward." (Star badge candidates) come forward. "In receiving your Star rank tonight, you are taking a long step toward Eagle. Tonight you are leaving that group which receives Scouting, and are now to be admitted to a smaller group whose privilege and duty is to give Scouting – to give leadership, guidance and inspiration to other scouts who will follow your example. May the star on this badge be a reminder of the star of service that will light your trail in Scouting. Congratulations and keep up the good work." Scoutmaster will present (Star badge candidates) their rank and acknowledge merit badges and service stars where appropriate. Scoutmaster: "Will (Life badge candidates) please come forward." (Life badge candidates) come forward. "The Life Scout heart symbolizes life and courage. As you bring life to everything around you, may you also have the courage to reach the goals you set for yourself. As you step onto the final trail to Eagle, the Scout Oath and Scout Law will mean more than ever before. The spirit of helpfulness and alertness of mind and the mastery of those Scout skills that make "Be Prepared" really mean something – these are the inner qualities of the Scout who wears the Life Scout badge. Congratulations and good luck." Scoutmaster will present them with their rank, and acknowledge their merit badges and service stars. He will then present each with a Life miniature, and have him pin it on his mother. They will then be seated. Scoutmaster will present the remaining merit badges and service stars. Scoutmaster will turn the floor over to Asst. Scoutmaster, who will present the (Frozen Few patches), (Camporee patches), (etc). Asst. Scoutmaster will then turn the floor over to Committee Chairman, who will make a few brief announcements, then turn the floor over to District Representative for the conclusion of FOS. Committee Chairman will then turn the floor over to SPL for the closing. Dim Lights. SPL: "Will you all please stand and join me in the Scout Oath." SPL will lead the Scout Oath, and all candles will be extinguished except for the three. SPL: "May the light of these candles, representing our Scout Oath, guide us on our trail to Eagle and throughout our lives. Color Guard, retire the colors." The color guard will advance to their positions, and retire the colors. SPL: "Thank you all for coming tonight. Would you all please join us for refreshments."
