Theme: Support our Troops, held on Armed Forces Day to honor all those men and women who serve to protect our country's freedom. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corp and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department -- the Department of Defense.
    The Camporee was a great success, thanks to everyone's hard work & support! Over 441 participants, plus many other visitors, enjoyed competing, watching, or manning the challenge events and Expos. Some of the servicemen who came to participate couldn't resist trying out some of the challenge courses themselves! Hundreds of items, including a large number of phone cards, were collected for the 152nd Maintenance Battalion of the Marine National Guard deployed in Iraq. Besides all the Scout leaders and Scouts who helped, special thanks to the following people and organizations:
  • Harlan Goodwin of Spring Hill Lodge, for allowing us to use his property for this event.
  • Jeff Fregeau, retired veteran Army tank driver, supplied and set up an authentic WWII command tent, complete with a pot-bellied stove, period furniture and accessories, for the VFW to use during the event.
  • Skip Warner, retired Naval Air veteran for supplying and setting up the 16x32 headquarters tent, which was invaluable during the inclement weather, and also a 17x17 for our First Aid tent.
  • Dave Carey & Paul Galvin, both former Scout leaders, for volunteering to man the S.Berwick Rescue Squad ambulance during Saturday's events.
  • Command Master Chief Randy Shoe, of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and his men for their enthusiastic support, donated materials, demos and submarine exhibit.
  • Staff Sgt Richard B. Wood Jr., Army Recruiter and former Scout, and staff, for bringing the climbing wall and passing out cases of MREs to the scouts.
  • The U.S.Coast Guard for bringing the high-powered rescue boat and explaining its operation to a never-ending stream of eager scouts.
  • Jeff Spaulding, former Troop 338 member and Eagle Scout, for helping clear the site and building the Lumberjack competition station.
  • The Eliot 4th Royal Artillery reenactment unit for the Revolutionary War campsite.
  • The South Berwick Water District for supplying our potable water for the weekend.
  • To Everyone who donated their time, materials, and support, Thank You, for making this a memorable event!
